Choir
Choir is available to Elementary, Junior High and High School students as part of the regular Oakwood Christian School curriculum. There is not a charge for this class. Students taking voice lessons are strongly encouraged to participate in Choir as it will strengthen their voice, deepen their musical knowledge and provide them with opportunities to practice the things they have learned in their lessons.
Music Lessons
Music Lessons are available to all Oakwood Christian School students for a variety of instruments and voice. Students beginning in the fall are guaranteed a total of 28 lessons during the school year. There is a $35 fee to register for lessons and a $60 per month, per instrument fee as well. Lessons beginning at any other point in the school year are adjusted according to the number of lesson weeks remaining.
Performance Opportunities
Students will be given performance opportunities in weekly Chapel sessions. This is an excellent opportunity to minister to their peers, build confidence and prepare for recitals and competitions. Teachers will evaluate the student’s preparedness and will sign them up when they feel the student is ready to perform. Slots are available at a “first come" basis.
Fine Arts Competition
Every year, Oakwood Christian School students have the opporutnity to participate in a Fine Arts Festival. The festival is administered by the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools (SCACS). The festival consists of several competition categories, including Bible, Academic testing, Music, Speech and Art. There are numerous events within each category. Examples of events that students have participated in recently are Bible Preaching, Bible Teaching, Choir, Piano Solos, Vocal Ensembles, Vocal Solos, Choric Speaking, Duet Acting, Oral Interpretation of Poetry, Acrylic Painting, Crafts, and Photography. Students prepare throughout the school year for these events that occur in early to mid-March. Ninth to twelfth graders who win first place in their event move on the national competition administered by the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) which is held at Bob Jones University in April.
